What about the Farmers? How will they be affected?

Farmers' property rights will never be taken away, as participation in this program is voluntary. Farmland preservation benefits East Allen Township and its residents because:

  • It is fiscally sound and an investment in the township's future.
  • The revenue generated by farmland and open space stays in the Township, and property values are not adversly affected ny factors beyond the control of owners.
  • Saving farmland saves money for taxpayers because farmland generates more revenue in property taxes than it demands in services. Conversely, housing developments increase the need for taxpayer-funded services, such as road maintenance, schools, and Fire and EMS services.
